Transaction Codes

How to configure the codes that classify and control financial postings.

Open Business Configuration → Financial Configuration → Transaction Codes. A Transaction Code classifies why a posting occurs and whether it is valid on the Debit side, Credit side, or both sides of a posting line.

Access and lifecycle

Read Transaction Code shows the tab, Create Transaction Code permits a draft, Update Transaction Code permits eligible changes, and Delete Transaction Code controls supported retirement or restoration. L1, L2, and L3 authority controls the matching checker steps. Transaction Codes use maker-checker for creation and amendments after authorization.

At L0, select the target company when creating a Transaction Code or Product. Tenant users are fixed to their own company.

Create a transaction code

Open Transaction Codes, select Create Trans Code, and complete:

FieldMeaning
CodeUnique 2–20 character identifier, normalized to uppercase with hyphens.
DescriptionUser-facing transaction description.
Transaction TypeClassifies the code as Debit, Credit, or Both. It cannot be changed after authorization.
Additional FieldsAppears when custom fields are configured for Transaction Codes.

Select Save as Draft to continue later or Save & Submit to begin the configured approval sequence. After authorization, Description and custom fields are amendable; Code and Transaction Type remain fixed.

Choose the type from the intended business posting, and use separate codes where reporting or downstream configuration must distinguish events such as cash deposits, withdrawals, transfers, accruals, capitalization, commissions, or reversals.

Configure Products, internal GL Accounts, and Product Balances under Chart of Accounts.
